This is an exciting and unique opportunity to enjoy an introduction to kayaking on our wonderful river.  Enjoy a trip from Kilsheelan to Carrick, and discover why the river is such a special place: steeped in history and a haven for wildlife.

What to Expect

After checking in and meeting the guides at Kilsheelan you’ll be given your flotation device, kayak and paddle. You will receive an instructional and safety briefing before launching. The guide will then lead you to explore our famous river while taking in some of the area’s most iconic landmarks on this kayaking adventure. See the area from a completely different perspective.  Bring your camera, because you won’t want to miss the opportunity to capture photos from this unique angle.

Please note that you will most likely get wet, so it is advisable to bring a change of clothes and towel. Finish your kayak adventure in time to soak up the special street atmosphere in Carrick as it celebrates its most famous musical family.

Highlights

Paddle from the historic village of Kilsheelan on the majestic river Suir on a 3 hour journey of adventure to the medieval heart of Carrick on Suir under the careful guidance of expert kayak instructors from Pure Adventure Ltd and Tipperary Sports Parnership and local river guides.

canoes bluewayTravel from the clear limestone river water into the tidal estuary waters of the Suir and learn about the fish and other flora and fauna that can be found in the river and in the riparian habitat.

The Blueway Kayak Tour to Carrick on Suir includes instruction on using a kayak and commentary from a local guide on the history of the river and the adjacent Castles and heritage sites.  The Kayak Tour is a once off event to celebrate the opening of the Suir Blueway in 2019 and scheduled to arrive in the town of Carrick on Suir which will be en fête for the Clancy Brothers Art and Music Festival.

The group tour is limited to 16 participants and this will ensure a fun and safe experience.  The safety of participants will be overseen by the trained and very experienced kayak operators from Pure Adventure Ltd and Tipperary Sports Partnership. No previous experience of kayaking is necessary.

What You Can Expect

After checking in and meeting the kayak instructors at the start point at Kilsheelan, you will be given your flotation device, kayak, paddle and safety helmet. You will receive an instructional and safety briefing before launching. The guide will then lead you to explore Tipperary’s most famous river in a leisurely down river pace to suit everyone.

See the countryside from a completely different perspective. Understand the historical importance of the river and really get up close to this lovely wildlife corridor. At the end of your kayaking adventure you will return to land at the Bog Field in Carrickbeg …a journey that will have taken in the region of 3 hours depending on breaks and conversations along the way.  No need to rush…the river current is always with us and even when you don’t paddle you will still be moving towards Carrick.  Please note: you will most likely get a little wet. Finish your kayak adventure in time to soak up the special street atmosphere in Carrick as it celebrates its’ most famous musical family.
