Freddie White

Friday June 1st, 8.15pm, €18.50

Songwriter and guitar player, Freddie White has been part of the fabric of the live music scene in Ireland since the 1970s, being a founding member of ‘Scullion’, together with Philip King and Sonny Condell. Later he formed ‘The Fake’, regarded as one of the seminal Irish bands of the late ‘70s. Next came The Freddie White Band formed in 1978, which toured with Eric Clapton.Freddie White by Con Kelleher

He has the ability to ‘get inside’ and deliver heartrending, troubled love songs in a manner guaranteed to stop you in your tracks. It is often said of Freddie that he does not merely cover great songs: more often than not he improves on the originals. Indeed, if this were not the case, he would surely be more highly revered for his own songwriting accomplishments.

Freddie is beginning his 2018 tour of Ireland at the Clancy Brothers Festival, and with a string of seminal albums and a mesmerising performance, this is guaranteed to be a concert not to miss.

Cordeen is a group of four of Ireland and Newfoundland’s finest button accordionists, some also great vocalists! The name ‘Cordeen’ comes from the Newfoundland expression for the accordion, a phonetic of the Irish Gaelic word ‘cairdín’.The cultural connection between Ireland and Newfoundland is at the musical heart of Cordeen, everything from the lively foot tapping tune to heartfelt songs and airs. Benny McCarthy, (Danú), and Conor Moriarty, (All-Ireland champion 2010), hail from Waterford and Kerry. Billy Sutton, (The Fables), and Graham Wells, (formerly with The Irish Descendants), are from Harbour Grace & St. Johns in Newfoundland.
