The Clancy Brothers Festival Youth Busking Competition is going online this year! We may be locked down, but we can still have some fun in this ‘stay at home’ era. The competition is open to solo and group acts and there’s a great prize pot. So long as you play or sing live music, and you are under 18, you can enter to join the fun.

The Lowdown…

  • Entrants can be solo, duo or group acts so long as social distancing and current government health guidelines are followed.
  • Buskers can play on their doorsteps, driveways, gardens, balconies, or anywhere that the current guidelines allow. The judges will be looking for creativity and inventiveness, singing quality and musicianship, originality and presence.
  • There are three categories: under 12, under 15 and under 18. Prizes of Carrick-on-Suir gift vouchers will be awarded to all the winners.
  • Entrants can send a video of themselves playing two songs and/or tunes to clancybrothersbusking@gmail.com. (If the file size is too big, it can be sent by Dropbox, WeTransfer or GoogleDrive).
  • Entries will be accepted from Monday, May 18 to midday on Wednesday, May 27.
  • The competition is open to buskers under the age of 18 on Wednesday May 27.
  • The videos will be uploaded to the Clancy Brothers Festival Facebook page and all the videos will be streamed from 2pm on Saturday, May 30, after which the winners will be announced.

Tips

  • Play outside – it’s a busking competition! Play on your doorstep, in your driveway, in your garden, on balcony…be inventive!
  • Current COVID 19 advice is that you can only mix with members of your own household unless out and about where up to 4 people not from the same household may mix while maintaining social distancing.
    • So if you’re entering as a group you must all be from the same household.
    • Or if your bandmates live next door or across the road you could play to each other across the garden fence or across the road.
    • The HSE still asks people to stay at home to help slow the spread of coronavirus.
  • Let your neighbours know – get them involved – they’ll make a great audience.
  • Most of all, have fun with it!

*Please note that current advice from the government is that you may only mix with people from your own household, you may travel up to 5km from home for exercise, and must maintain social distancing.

*From Monday, May 18, up to four people not of same household may meet outdoors while maintaining strict social distance. The 5km limit for exercise remains, and everyone must maintain social distancing.

*As we enter Phase One of the  COVID 19 Roadmap, the HSE still asks people to stay at home to help slow the spread of coronavirus. If you leave your home or meet people outside, remember to keep at least 2m from others. Hand washing is still very important.
